The IDEA 8.1.x EAP (Diana 9805) is using SVNKit 1.2.1 which supports up to svn 1.5.4.

This exposes IDEA users to some painful bugs related to merging - an area where IDEA is already particularly weak.

The latest stable version of SVNKit is 1.2.3, which supports up to svn 1.5.6, the latest in the Subversion 1.5.x releases.
In order to properly support Subversion 1.5.x, please upgrade IDEA's Subversion Plugin To SVNKit 1.2.3 as soon as possible in IDEA 8.1.x.

Workaround for those who are facing subversion problems and cannot wait:
  • Download standalone version of SVNKit 1.2.3 from http://svnkit.com/download.php
  • Back up <idea-home>/plugins/svn4idea
  • Replace the jars in <idea-home>/plugins/svn4idea with corresponding newer versions from the SVNKit download
